Red Frogs hopping into summer Red Frogs volunteers offer assistance and advice to young people.

For the eighth year Red Frogs New Zealand is gearing up to support and safeguard young people during the holiday period.

Thousands of teenagers and young adults are about to flock to Wānaka and other popular holiday locations and festivals where the Red Frogs will be on hand to provide a safe and positive environment for party-goers.

“This summer is gearing up to be Red Frogs’ biggest season yet,” Red Frogs New Zealand director Ray Thomson said.

“Our dedicated volunteers are ready to assist young people, offering practical help and emotional support throughout their celebrations."

More than one hundred Red Frog volunteers are preparing to support young people by offering assistance and advice during their celebrations across four New Years’ locations - Wānaka, Queenstown, Nelson, and Kaiteriteri - and dozens of festivals and events.

The volunteers will establish safe spaces, or ‘chill out zones’, in each location during New Years’  to provide an alcohol and drug-free zone for young people. Those wanting a safe haven or break from the festivities can use these spaces at their disposal.

The volunteers engage with patrons in a positive and respectful manner, fostering a supportive atmosphere, Ray said.

“Through pancake cookups at the chill out zone, Red Frogs create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.”

Red Frogs also collaborates with local communities, councils, law enforcement and businesses throughout the festive season to ensure a coordinated effort is achieved that promotes safe celebrations.

Red Frogs New Zealand is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing a positive and safe environment for young people during New Years’ celebrations, festivals and other high-risk events. The team of volunteers offer support, care, and educational programmes to ensure the well-being of students as they transition into a new phase of their lives.
