Covid-19: SDHB has highest number of cases; 387 active cases in Queenstown LakesNew SDHB figures show there are almost 3,377 active cases of Covid-19 in the Southern District.

There are 387 active cases of Covid-19 in Queenstown Lakes today (Wednesday June 29) according to the latest figures.


The Southern District Health Board (SDHB) has released its weekly Covid-19 update, which shows there are 3,377 cases of Covid-19 across the Southern District.



There are 290 cases of Covid-19 in Waitaki; 256 in Central Otago; 1,666 in Dunedin; 122 in Clutha; 189 in Southland; 92 in Gore; and 375 in Invercargill.


Radio NZ today said the SDHB has the highest number of cases per 100k population.


The Ministry of Health reported two deaths today of people with Covid-19  in the Southern region.



The SDHB announced today there is a second booster available to anyone aged 50 and over. 


The booster is also available for healthcare and aged residential care workers aged 30 and over, and strongly recommended for people aged 65 years and over; Māori and Pacific peoples aged 50 years and over; residents of aged care and disability care facilities; severely immunocompromised people who received a three-dose primary course and a fourth dose as a first booster (noting this would be a fifth dose for these people); people aged 16 years and over who have a medical condition that increases the risk of severe breakthrough Covid-19 illness;  and people aged 16 years and over who live with disability with significant or complex health needs or multiple comorbidities.



Second boosters are not recommended for healthy pregnant people.

The SDHB has also asked members of the public to ‘Safeguard, Sing Out, Share and Repeat’  this winter to help combat influenza, Covid-19, and other illnesses.



To ‘Safeguard’, individuals should get vaccinated, stay home if you’re sick, look after your general wellbeing and keep your home warm and dry; ‘Sing Out’ means to seek support for illness; ‘Shield’ by wearing a mask, coughing and sneezing into your elbow and staying home if you’re sick; and ‘Repeat’ means to continue to do the same thing you did to protect yourself from Covid-19.
