“Unbelievable” is how New World Three Parks grocery grab winner Lynn Sloan described her excitement when winning the store’s annual grocery grab competition.
The month-long competition in the Wānaka App closed on Sunday (December 5) and Lynn’s name was drawn from 749 entries.
“Initially I didn’t believe it,” Lynn said.
“I was completely blown away when I got the phone call.”
Lynn’s prize was a two minute opportunity to fill a shopping trolley with products from the New World Three Parks store.
In a mad dash around the store yesterday (Friday December 10), Lynn redeemed her prize, securing $1,346.96 in groceries.
“I walked around the shop about three or four times and made a list. I totalled up what I hoped to get and it came to about $1,600 so I didn’t do too badly,” she said.
Supported by friends and store staff Lynn targeted the meat section before sprinting the width of the store to grab as much of the ham and cheese as she could.
Lynn said she was travelling when she entered the competition.
“I was actually up in Blenheim working and the Wānaka App popped up, so I was reading that, and entered and didn’t think I had a hope of winning but thought I might as well enter,” she said.
New World Three Parks will match Lynn’s winnings with a $1,346.96 donation of New World gift cards to the Community Networks’ foodbank.
“It’s great to be able to make the donation to the foodbank,” store owner Dean Bartley said.
“The community has been great to us in challenging circumstances and it is nice to be able to celebrate our second birthday with the community involved.”
New World Three Parks opened at 8.30am on December 10 2019 and employs 190 staff.
