Wastebusters is encouraging the mantra of shop-secondhand-first this summer by hosting a fair where locals and visitors can stock up on all their summer essentials.
The front yard will be packed with summer goodies at today’s (Saturday October 21) Summer Fair, Wastebusters communications and events coordinator Catrin Smith told the Wānaka App.
There will be everything from outdoor gear (including, kayaks) to wetsuits and tramping and camping gear.
“The shop will be bursting with beautiful secondhand summer clothing, everything from designer dresses to summer shoes, accessories, funky shirts and more,” Catrin said.
“We have heaps of big name brands including Birkenstock, Macpac, Huffer, Lululemon, Kathmandu and more.”
Attendees can also expect “the usual Wasties fun, feel good vibes,” Catrin said.
“We'll be in full party mode with live music to get us into the summer groove.”
Fox & Badger will be on-site with food and drink and “we'll do the usual setup of a nice chill area, giving you a space to enjoy your food and drink while listening to some music”.
Wastebusters’ latest Resourceful Communities survey found that there was a notable upturn in the frequency of secondhand shopping, with a 13 percent increase in the people who said they usually or always shopped secondhand first.

The fair makes it easy to shop second-hand this summer, and Catrin said there was so much stock she expected the Wastebusters team to be restocking all weekend.
Wastebusters’ Summer Fair will take place between 9am-5pm.
