Upgrade for Golf Course Rd pathwayWork has begun on the path alongside Golf Course Road.

A narrow pathway prone to flooding in winter is being upgraded, two years after the road it is adjacent to was dug up.

The Golf Course Road pedestrian path is being levelled out, widened and drained, Wānaka Upper Clutha Community Board chair Simon Telfer told the Wānaka App.

He said the pathway was “notorious for its puddles and flooding in winter” and the current work will help.

“This investment will help the users of the medical centre and residents on the other side of Cardrona Valley Rd and the quickly growing new subdivisions off Orchard Road to better link into the town's active transport network,” he said.

He said “prudent project management” meant budget savings from Queenstown Lakes District Council’s (QLDC) Schools to Pool project were able to be invested in the upgrade.

Golf Course Road was the site of months of work in 2022 when it was dug up to connect underground pipes from the western side of Wānaka to pipes along Anderson Road.
