Top crime writers to visit WānakaCrime-writing heavyweights Val McDermid, Michale Robotham, and J.P.Pomare.

Three of the world’s finest crime writers will soon be visiting Wānaka for one night.

Scottish author Val McDermid, Australian writer Michael Robotham, and home-grown Kiwi author J.P.Pomare will talk with former Festival of Colour general manager Laura Williamson on stage about the inner workings of the criminal mind, the challenge of understanding people who do terrible things, and why readers find such dark material so hard to put down.

The three crime-writing heavyweights will share their combined knowledge during the Crime After Crime session (presented by the Festival of Colour in partnership with Wānaka Paper Plus).

Queen of Crime Val McDermid knows what it takes to be considered crime-writing royalty. She has sold over 18 million copies of her books to date and has had several adapted for television.

Michael Robotham’s nine-book Joseph O’Loughlin series was a worldwide bestseller and is currently being adapted for the screen. He’s well known for The Secrets She Keeps, now an award-winning TV drama, and his latest book Lying Beside You is making waves in the crime community.

Rotorua-born J.P. Pomare is no stranger to Aotearoa’s shores – his debut novel Call Me Evie won the Ngaio Marsh Award for Best First Novel, and his second book In the Clearing will soon be screened by Disney+. The Wrong Woman is his fifth book.

Organisers say that attendees can “expect a criminally good night”.

Crime After Crime will be held at the Wānaka Community Hub on Saturday September 17, from 6pm.
