The ‘repair revolution’ returns

The Wānaka App

The ‘repair revolution’ returns The Repair Revolution will return to the Upper Clutha next month, with events on November 4 and November 18, and Wastebusters is looking for volunteers willing to help out.

Volunteers with a fix-it ‘superpower’ are being called on for the next round of Repair Revolution events in the Upper Clutha.

The Repair Revolution will return to Wānaka on November 4 and Luggate on November 18, giving people a chance to have their broken items fixed or to receive advice on how they could be repaired.

Wastebusters events coordinator Abigail Hurford-Abel said volunteers play a pivotal role in these events, by sharing their time and skills and teaching attendees of all ages how to repair.

"It's incredible to see how dedicated these talented superheroes are, and it's even more special when you see the look on these youngsters' faces after learning how to do a simple bike repair or mending their favourite toy,” she said.

"We love bringing everyone together for a fantastic cause: reducing waste and helping our community be more resourceful.”

Many skills are brought to the table at the events, from fixing bikes to darning socks.

“We've seen toys, furniture, bags, and so many pieces of clothing given a new lease of life. Whether you're a well-seasoned sewer or pretty nifty at fixing appliances, we'd love to hear from you," Abigail said.

Everyone is welcome to bring their broken treasures for free advice and repairs at the upcoming events.

If you know of specific parts needed for your repair, bring them along, Abigail said.

Wastebusters will bring along its Repair Revolution trailer filled with tools and equipment for repairers to use.

The Wānaka event will take place from 11am-3pm at Wānaka Community Hub & Fabricate and the Luggate event will run from 11am-3pm at the Luggate Memorial Centre.

Repair Revolution is part of Wastebusters' Resourceful Communities project, supported by Queenstown Lakes District Council Zero Waste District Programme.
