Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has provided an update on the Mt Iron junction (SH6/SH84) roundabout, which is scheduled for completion by April 2024.
The inner circle of the roundabout has been completed following realignment of the telecommunications infrastructure, and NZTA said a light column will be built in the centre of that circle.
Recent road widening is allowing traffic to move through the worksite, and the warmer spring weather has allowed the start of sealing and asphalting on both the roundabout and its Wānaka and Hāwea approaches.
Work is also underway on installing drainage and utility services.
There will be a light column in the centre of the roundabout.
NZTA said traffic management will be in place from Monday to Saturday between 7am and 7pm over the next few months.
A 24/7 temporary 30 km/h speed limit will operate on or near the roundabout until the end of the project.
Traffic layouts will change often, so people are advised to take care and allow extra time driving through this area, especially during peak morning and afternoon traffic.
“Keeping to the temporary 30 km/h speed limit is important to having a worksite that’s safe for construction crews, road users, and nearby residents,” NZTA said.
“Drive carefully, observe the signs, be aware of any hidden traffic queues, and follow the directions of our traffic management crews who are there to keep you safe.”
