Suspended driver clocked at 166kph - fled police

A driver who fled from police in Wānaka yesterday (Tuesday November 19) was clocked travelling at 166kph, Wānaka Police Senior Sergeant Fiona (Fi) Roberts said.

The driver, a 21-year-old male, has since been charged with “serious charges” including reckless driving, failure to stop and driving while suspended, Fi said.

She said police first received a driving complaint in relation to a rental vehicle in the Cardrona Valley Road area, Fi said.

Police responded and located the vehicle, which “fled towards Wānaka, continuing to drive at high speeds”.

The driver was later stopped in West Wānaka.

Fi said the male was driving a rental vehicle.
