The board agreed to adopt the maximum parking limit (P120 zone) at its meeting in September.
Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) will also be monitoring the site during the summer, a spokesperson told the Wānaka App.
“With enforcement and signage, this will help increase turnover and create opportunities for more people to park here during the day,” the spokesperson said.

“Council has previously taken steps to protect nearby reserve land and maintain clear access by installing rocks and fencing.”
In February this year rocks were installed around the Stoney Creek reserve to help restore it from a “dust bowl” to a green area.

The council spokesperson said the district is getting busier ahead of the summer holidays.
“While this can naturally pose challenges, we’re committing council resources accordingly.
“For example, our parking team has additional staff in Wānaka over the busy period and – as in previous years – there will be free, unlimited parking at the showgrounds.”
