Wao is looking for green-thumbed locals to share their produce at a harvest market taking place next month.
The market will be part of Wao’s two-day Harvest Festival, which will also include an apple drive, a series of workshops on all things produce - from growing and foraging to smoking and preparing - and a long lunch.
Wao programme manager Babu Blatt said the harvest market would have a “farmers market vibe, with the community gathered around our local food and our local producers”.
She said it provided an opportunity for individuals to showcase and sell their excess homegrown produce.
“Whether they've harvested an abundance of potatoes, have ripe grapes available, or simply a handful of root vegetables, we welcome their participation,” Babu said.
“Setting up a stand is free of charge; we only ask that interested individuals register with us before the event.”
Local market gardeners/commercial growers are also encouraged to participate.
Babu said the emphasis is on locally grown or foraged produce of all kinds.
“Individuals do not need to have a permit to sell their produce at our market,” she said.
The harvest market - the second-to-last of the Harvest Festival events which run across the weekend - will take place outside the Luggate Hall on Sunday March 17, from 9am-1pm.
It will be free to attend and Babu said patrons will be able to buy “fresh produce, sample locally made products, grab some delicious kai, or connect with the growers and makers”.
“There will be something for everyone.”
If you have a surplus of your own homegrown vegetables and want to take part in the market, contact Wao at [email protected] or register your interest by filling out this form.
