Scenic ski film highlights Wānaka Stills from the video show incredible shots of local ski fields, like the dawn at Cardrona Alpine Resort captured here.

For the first time ever, New Zealand ski areas have collaborated on an industry-led film project and marketing campaign.

Wānaka residents and locations feature heavily in ‘See You At The Bottom – The New Zealand Snow Movie’, which was filmed and produced by Diaries Downunder.

Ski Areas Association of New Zealand (SAANZ) chair and Wānaka resident Marty Toomey said he hopes the film will encourage skiers and snowboarders to make the most of winter ‘down under’.

“A successful ski season is hugely important to not only our ski areas, but also the wider snow sports industry and the communities that surround it,” Marty said.

All New Zealand ski fields collaborated to make ‘See You At the Bottom’: Pictured here is the Snow Farm.

“That’s why we have undertaken this joint initiative for winter 2022 and beyond.”

The film kicks off with Queenstown and Wānaka; before it moves to Canterbury and explores Canterbury club fields and Mt Hutt Ski Area; and the film’s final section moves to Ruapehu.

Cardrona and Treble Cone feature heavily and the Snow Farm also makes an appearance, as do local snowsports athletes including Olympian/Freeride World Tour athlete Janina Kuzma and Olympians Finn Bilous.

A variety of snowsports legends, including Janina Kuzma, are interviewed about what they love about their chosen fields in the promotional video.

The campaign will be largely targeted to Australian skiers and snowboarders, with the aim of inspiring them to book a ski holiday (once borders open) to experience the facilities, terrain and snow conditions New Zealand has on offer, SAANZ said in a statement.

It will also be promoted domestically, highlighting to Kiwis the world-class nature of the ski areas in their backyard.

“New Zealand is one of those incredible places where everyone can be inspired in the mountains,” Marty said.
