Road closures approved for NY celebrations New Year’s Eve 2023.

The Wānaka Upper Clutha Community Board (WUCCB) has approved a handful of road closures for the Wānaka CBD around the New Year’s Eve period.

The road closures will allow the council-funded New Year’s Eve celebrations on the Wānaka lakefront - which will feature two performance stages - to go ahead safely.

On December 29 and 30 the portion of Ardmore Street where the log cabin once was will be closed; on December 31, portions of Ardmore Street and Helwick will be closed.

This will allow for live entertainment at a stage near the Dinosaur Park on New Year’s Eve between 8am and 1am; and a DJ stage opposite Lake Bar from 9am-1am.

Queenstown Lakes District Council has hosted New Year’s Eve celebrations on the lakefront for some years.

Last year they included family-friendly events starting from 2pm, followed by DJs, live music and fireworks as the clock struck twelve.

More details on the New Year’s Eve celebrations for 2024 will be provided closer to the end of the year.

Full road closure details are as follows:

December 29 and 30, (6pm to midnight) at the Ardmore Street log cabin layby and December 31-January 1, 8am-3pm at the Ardmore Street log cabin layby, 3pm-3am at Ardmore Street from Dungarvon Street to Lakeside Road, 3pm-3am at Helwick Street from Ardmore Street to Dunmore Street.
