A pamphlet telling people to “get the real facts” about Covid-19 has been circulated to some Wanaka households earlier this week and police would like to hear from anyone with information on who may have distributed the flyers.
The pamphlet outlined a range of assertions, all of which have been debunked by health experts.
Police said the delivery of pamphlets during alert level four would likely be classed as non-essential personal movement and therefore is a breach of the current Health Order.
“As this action (on the face of it anyway) appears to be a breach of the Health Order, and police have a role to maintain compliance of the Health Order, then police would be interested in any information that is able to be provided about who is involved,” a police spokesperson told the Wanaka App.
A person in Meadowstone who received the pamphlet told the Wanaka App they were shocked to see it in their letterbox.
“I was really surprised to see a pamphlet effectively telling me everything is a conspiracy. I was about to bin it when I thought that it probably needed to be known that this sort of thing was happening.
“It would be good to know how it got into my letterbox as it is not welcome,” they said.
New Zealand Post senior media advisor Sarah Jarvis confirmed that the pamphlet was “not delivered by any of our postal delivery contractors”.
The New Zealand Herald had reported similar pamphlets being distributed in Wellington and Auckland this week.
