Personal items recovered in search for missing manHector Gaston Artigau has been missing in Rob Roy Stream for almost a week.

The search for Argentinian backpacker Hector Gaston Artigau (21) remains ongoing, NZ Police say.

Hector was reported missing after a friend and hiking companion saw him fall from a rock into Rob Roy Stream in Mt Aspiring National Park last Thursday (February 6).

“Police have located a number of personal items along the stream, believed to belong to the missing man,” NZ Police said this morning (Thursday February 13).

Search efforts in the last two days have been hampered by extreme hazards and limited visibility, resulting in a brief suspension of the search on Tuesday afternoon (February 11).

Rob Roy Stream is a fast-flowing glacial meltwater stream, flowing through rugged terrain from Rob Roy Glacier to the west branch of the Matukituki River.

The Rob Roy Track is a popular walking track that runs alongside the stream for much of the track’s route up to Rob Roy Glacier.

Today the Police National Dive Squad and Wānaka SAR Swift Water Rescue Team will search an area of the canyon with an underwater camera and light equipment.
