Water health advocacy group WAI Wanaka is part of ‘Our Space’, an interactive centre at the upcoming A&P Show dedicated to teaching locals all about healthy ecosystems and community wellbeing.
‘Our Place’ will teach people of all ages about all things related to water and the environment: You can watch how water gets filtered and meet some of the tiny creatures that live below the surface; learn about why Bullock Creek is unique and why growing native trees from locally sourced seeds is sustainable.
WAI Wanaka (Water Action Initiative) will have a focus on water, but the many other groups at ‘Our Space’ will have educational initiatives on show too.
Te Kakano Aotearoa Trust, whose aim is to inspire community native habitat restoration, will be featured, and SUC Free Wanaka, a campaign to free Wanaka of single-use-cups by 2022, will also take part.

There will also be community food hub Grow Wanaka, environmental advocacy group WAO, Forest & Bird young members club Kiwi Conservation Club, and many more.
“You’ll create fun things out of so-called waste products while enjoying a freshly squeezed juice that you’ve made yourself using pedal power, and then drink it from a reusable cup,” WAI Wanaka representative Merle Sea said.
An ‘Our Place’ addition from further afield is the Otago Museum’s ‘Tech Tent’, which will share activities on climate change.
After a rocky week following the alert level two restrictions that could have prevented the Wanaka A&P Show from going ahead, the PM yesterday announced the change to alert level one, which means the annual event can continue as planned.

‘Our Place’ will be located behind the president’s tent between gates five and six.
