Back to alert level one for most of countryOn Sunday Auckland will move to alert level two and the rest of New Zealand will drop to alert level one.

Most of New Zealand will return to alert level one from Sunday (March 7) at 6am.

The PM confirmed the change of alert levels at a media conference this afternoon (Friday March 5), following five consecutive days with no new community cases of Covid-19.

Auckland, which has been at alert level three since last Sunday (February 28), will move down to alert level two on Sunday (March 7). The rest of the country will drop to alert level one.

Wanaka A&P Show organisers, stallholders and competitors will be breathing a sigh of relief at the news, which means the show can go ahead next week (March 11-12) as planned.

Show organisers committed on Tuesday (March 2) to continue planning for the event in the hopes the alert level would drop in time for show day.

There will be additional Covid-19 precautions in place, organisers said.

Macpac Motatapu organisers made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event, which was due to take place tomorrow (Saturday March 6) after last week’s alert level change.

New Zealand’s alert levels increased last Sunday at 6am after a sibling of a Papatoetoe High School student who was a casual plus contact of the recent Auckland community cases tested positive for Covid-19 last week.
