The 2024 edition of the Integrity Homes Challenge Wānaka witnessed outstanding performances from Kyle Smith and Els Visser, who emerged as the ultimate champions.

Els Visser from the Netherlands showed resilience and determination as she claimed victory in impressive fashion.

Overcoming the disappointment of her second-place finish last year, she had unfinished business.

Els surged ahead during the bike leg, seizing the lead and never looked back. Her remarkable display of strength and skill propelled her to victory, crossing the finish line in 4:34:46.

Rebecca Clarke secured the second position with a time of 4:43:29, while Laura Siddall clinched the third spot in 4:44:22.

“New Zealand is an incredible country and has a special place in my heart so to take the win is very special,” Els said.

The race was an emotional win as she dedicated it to her friend and acclaimed Brazilian Triathlete Luisa Baptisa who has a long road to recovery after a severe accident.

Els’ return to Wānaka marked a stellar year for the Dutch athlete on the Challenge race circuit in 2023. With notable achievements including a third-place finish at Challenge London and victory at Challenge Canberra, her dominance within the Challenge Family World Bonus standings solidified her status as a force to be reckoned with in the triathlon world.

New Zealander Kyle Smith demonstrated sheer dominance from start to finish, securing a spectacular victory in the men’s event.

Leading the pack right from the swim, Kyle continued to extend his lead during the bike leg, ultimately crossing the finish line in 3:53:08.

Mike Phillips claimed the second position with a time of 3:58:11, while defending champion Jack Moody secured the third spot in 4:00:21.

Kyle’s commanding performance showcased his prowess as he navigated the challenging course, leaving his competitors trailing behind.

“It was one of those magical days, you don’t get many in your career. It was probably my best in three years – a complete performance,” he said.
