Lake Hāwea Station co-owner Justine Ross was injured in a vehicle crash near the station on Sunday (February 18) but she is expected to make a full recovery.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson told the Wānaka App the organisation was notified of an incident at John Creek at 5.45pm on Sunday.

“We sent three helicopters, an ambulance and one ops manager to the scene, where three patients were treated and then airlifted to hospital,” the spokesperson said.

“One was 'seriously injured' and two had 'moderate injuries' according to our assessment.”

Justine’s husband Geoff confirmed on Wednesday that his wife and two family friends were involved in the crash, which he said was caused by a mechanical failure, Stuff reported.

“All three patients are expected to make a full recovery,” Geoff told Stuff.

The incident comes six years after the entrepreneurs and 42 Below Vodka founders moved from Auckland to Hāwea.

In 2018 the couple bought the 11,300ha Lake Hawea Station from the Rowley family for $17.5M.
