Household incomes revealed for Upper Clutha The median household income in Upper Clutha’s suburbs has been made available through data from Stats NZ.

Information from Stats NZ has revealed the highest earning areas around the Upper Clutha.


Stats NZ researched household incomes across 2,000 suburbs in New Zealand. 



The Wakatipu Basin and Lake Hayes were the only Queenstown Lakes suburbs among the top earners nationally (the 28 suburbs with median household incomes of $150,000 or more) but Jacks Point came in just a sliver behind, at $149,800.


The median household income in Upper Clutha suburbs ranged from $63,300 to $100,600. 



Stats NZ outreach and information advisor Ron Mair told the Wānaka App the figures were based on the 2018 census and categorised “by SA2 area, similar to a suburb”.


In the Hāwea Basin the median household income was $85,600; in Lake Hāwea township it was $76,800; in Cardrona it was $99,000; and in Albert Town it was $96,500.


In ‘West Wānaka’ - the suburbs west of the lake - the median household income was $90,600; while in the ‘Wānaka Waterfront’ area immediately east of the lake it was $91,300.



For ‘Wānaka North’ (between the Clutha River to the north and SH84 to the south) the median household income topped six figures at $100,600. 


The lowest-income area in the Upper Clutha, according to Stats NZ, was Wānaka Central (which stretches from SH84 and the lakefront in the north to just south of Orchard Road) with a median household income of $63,300.
