The woman who was found dead in the Timaru River earlier this month has been named.
She was 36-year-old Claire Frances Connell, a NZ Police spokesperson told the Wānaka App.
Claire was from Australia, the representative said.
She was found dead in the river, near Lake Hāwea, on February 5.
The Timaru River Track, which forms part of the Te Araroa Trail, runs alongside the Timaru River.
NZ Police have not shared any additional details about Claire’s death but they have confirmed it is not considered to be suspicious.
“Police extend our sympathies to her family and loved ones,” the spokesperson said.
Her death has been referred to the coroner.
