The body of a person missing in Lake Wānaka has been located near the Wānaka foreshore close to the swimming platform in Roy’s Bay.
The person was reported missing last night (Thursday November 24) after they failed to surface while swimming in the lake. Emergency services received a call at 6.50pm.
Police and other agencies including Coastguard Wānaka Lakes activated a search.
Coastguard and Search and Rescue were stood down yesterday evening and police said the Police National Dive Squad would be arriving in Wānaka today.
The Wānaka App spoke to friends of the swimmer early this morning who said the person’s body had been found.
A police jetski was positioned between the swimming platform and the foreshore this morning.
Police declined to comment further at this stage.
