A 6.7 magnitude earthquake caused a pro-longed shake in Wānaka this afternoon (Tuesday March 25).
The earthquake struck off the southern coast of the South Island at 2.43pm at a depth of 33 kilometres.
GeoNet has described the shaking as 'moderate'.
Wānaka residents have reported a long rolling shake with one saying "wow, that was a good shake".
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said there was no tsunami threat to land and people along the coast did not need to evacuate.
