Bad signs for council?Campervans flout signs banning their parking on Ardmore Street on Sunday.

There have been a couple of bad signs for council early this new year, including the flouting of new signage banning camper vans from parking on Ardmore Street, and a mix up with road signs on Beacon Point Road.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) installed signs last month along the newly designed Ardmore Street lakefront parks, which advise: ‘No campervans or large passenger vehicles’.

“The new parking bays created as part of stage two were always designed for cars. Campervans and large passenger vehicles will not be permitted to park there once signage is in place,” a council spokesperson told the Wānaka App last month.

However the signs seem to be largely ignored, and the Wānaka App counted 12 campervans parked in the prohibited parks on early Sunday evening (January 8).

Campervan drivers must be aware they must not park on Ardmore Street’s new car parks.

In addition, some of the new signs have been damaged and some removed.

A council spokesperson told the Wānaka App that QLDC parking wardens are tasked with patrolling the area on a regular basis, multiple times a day.

“If prohibited vehicles were parked there when officers patrolled the area, they will have received a ticket,” he said.

Meanwhile, newly erected signs for Beacon Point Road and Aubrey Road, at the intersection of both roads, appear to have been mixed up.

When alerted to the mistake, the council spokesperson told the Wānaka App it would issue a request for service to rectify the error.
