An array of art work inspired by the theme ‘identity’ is on display at the Wānaka Community Hub until the end of this month.
The work by Hāwea Flat School students joins a small range of pieces donated by more established and local artists which are available for purchase via a silent auction.
The students’ work was part of a Queenstown Lakes District cultural masterplan trial with the assistance of Wānaka printmaker Liz Hawker, painter Kym Beaton, photographer Glen Howey and sculptor Tony O’Keefe.
Junior students were inspired by Picasso.
Different groups of students worked on a range of projects exploring identity, and Hāwea Flat School principal Tania Pringle said the exhibition represented work by all the students, from new entrants to year six.

Displays included sculptures inspired by the work of Picasso; lino print and wood carvings of students’ homes; chalk pastel native animals; and Kiwiana beach landscapes.
Wānaka’s Holy Family School took part in the trial last year.

The exhibition runs at the Community Hub until July 31.
