Fancy a hot pool on a hillside? You may not have to wait long if so, as a small wood-fired hot tub complex has been proposed for a site near Hawea Flat.
Owners of land adjacent to SH6 and Camphill Road have sought a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) from the Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) for a proposed hot tub complex on their farmland. The site has flat land adjacent to Camphill Road, which slopes up to an undulating plateau.
The application requests six hot wood-fired hot tubs, five of which would accommodate two people and the sixth one person. Site drawings show the hot tubs would be angled and spaced apart to create privacy, and each tub would have its own changing room.

The applicants state that guests would travel by minivan from Wanaka and would access the complex via an existing crossing place on Camphill Road, which would be updated to meet council standards.
A series of ten service buildings in a cluster have also been requested, including composting toilets, a staff room, storage and a site office, as well as three water tanks.
The land is owned by Rik and Juliet Deakon.
“The overall site is currently rural in nature and is actively used as grazed pasture, having been owned by the applicant for approximately 25 years,” the CoC application said.

An original application for nine hot tubs accommodating four people each has been amended to restrict the overall activity to 11 guests and one staff member.
A QLDC spokesperson said the application is currently on hold “awaiting further information”.
