Ride sharing platform launches for winterA new car-sharing social network is making it easier to get to the ski fields this winter.

A new ride sharing platform to help snowsports enthusiasts find a ride to their favourite ski resort is launching in time for winter.

Snow Riders NZ is a free car-sharing social network for New Zealand skiers and snowboarders where members can search for a ride up or down the mountain or offer spare seats to others.

“Basically it is a social networking ride sharing platform,” Snow Riders NZ founder Ben Mac said. “Members have a profile, they can friend, they can chat, they can communicate with each other.”

Ben said he gave a presentation at a Ski Areas Association of New Zealand (SAANZ) conference to explain how Snow Riders NZ can help ease transport issues at ski resorts.

“They have an issue with car park capacity and access roads and things like that and they’d like to increase the headcount of visitors getting to ski fields and they’re not going to do that with single occupancy vehicles.”

Ben said the idea was to help like minded snow enthusiasts connect with each other, making it easy to find a ride to the mountain and to help the environment by saving on greenhouse gas emissions when traveling to ski fields.

“People need to be more conscious around how they get to the ski resort, be more eco-friendly, and we hope to build a community around that,” he said.

People can register on the platform here or download the Snowriders NZ mobile app from the app store.
