More Lilliput libraries launchedOne new Lilliput library is located on the Hāwea Back Road.

Three new Lilliput libraries have popped up around the Upper Clutha.

Lilliput libraries are miniature community libraries - sometimes as small as a letterbox - which are located adjacent to public areas. Members of the community can find and take new (or new-to-them) books, or they can drop off their own books for other people to enjoy.

The libraries encourage reading, sharing, and community connection, and the Upper Clutha is lucky to now have more Lilliput libraries added to the mix.

Another new library has been installed outside Elmslie House.

A new Lilliput library has been installed outside Elmslie House at 81 Stone Street in Wanaka, as a result of Upper Clutha LINK’s Neighbours Day activities last month.

LINK organised a Lilliput library workshop at the Community Hub with the support of the Wanaka Lions, who donated and assembled two flatpacks so two groups (Elmslie House and a family from Albert Town) took a library away with them on the day.

LINK provided the undercoat, and the library at Elmslie was painted by the residents.

So there is a new library in Albert Town, and one more on the way for the Wanaka Homestead as a result of the workshop.

Another new Lilliput library has been erected on the Hāwea Back Road by Lake Hāwea Station owners Justine and Geoff Ross. The library itself, which measures 1mX1m, was handmade by John Ross, Geoff’s father.
