Wānaka snowboard superstar Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (21) has won a gold and silver medal at the invitation only X Games event in Aspen (USA) over the weekend.
On Saturday (January 28) Zoi successfully defended the X Games Slopestyle gold medal she won in 2022, and today she had to settle for second in the Big Air event finishing behind Reira Iwabuchi (JPN) by one point.
“Honestly, I can’t really believe it,” Zoi said after her slopestyle gold medal win.
“Everyone is absolutely ripping… I am proud of what we were all able to do in these conditions.”
Zoi was in second position behind Australia’s Tess Coady before her final run in the slopestyle competition.
No stranger to pressure, she laced together a technical rail run that included a huge cab 270 gap onto the flat down, a backside 900 and a switch backside 900, to take the win.
Today’s Big Air competition has been hailed as ‘like nothing ever seen before in women’s competition’.
Reira became the first woman to execute a cab triple under flip which was quickly matched by Laurie Blouin (CAN) who claimed the highest single trick score of the day, a 48 out of 50.
Final placings were based on the athletes best two scores combined, with Reira first, Zoi second, and Laurie third.
Zoi’s two X Games medals marked her 20th and 21st consecutive podium results.
