Our region has acknowledged the climate emergency and with one of the highest greenhouse gas emissions per capita in New Zealand it’s time to reset. WAO New Zealand invites you to join the Climate Action Workshop series during the Reset Summit. This workshop series consisting of four sessions over two days is designed to be flexible; attend any or all sessions.
WAO has secured three highly regarded presenters for the workshops - namely Associate Professor Sara Walton of Otago University School of Sustainable Business, Dr Carly Green of Environmental Accounting Services and Rachel Cooper previously with the Department of Primary Industries.
Workshop 1 will present the big picture of the global climate change context. Global and National policy responses will be explained from the Paris Agreement to New Zealand’s Zero Carbon Bill. It will be an interactive discussion aimed at answering your questions and expanding your thinking on climate action.
Workshop 2 will demonstrate how to estimate individual, household or business greenhouse gas emissions. If you bring along some information such as your electricity bills, your fuel bills and some idea of how much waste you send to landfill each week you will leave with an idea of your own carbon footprint. You will be surprised by what the data shows.
Workshop 3 is targeted at those in agriculture and horticulture businesses who what to estimate their emissions. Like Workshop 2, bring along information including livestock numbers, fertiliser application rates, fuel and electricity use to estimate your emissions. Or just come along to understand where agriculture emissions come from. This is a must for anyone in agriculture or horticulture.
Workshop 4 will explore in more detail what you can do to be a change maker. Bring along your information from the previous workshops or just bring your action orientated self. We will discuss where some easy changes can make an impact and discuss some bigger picture thinking to transform our region’s emissions profile which WAO will feed into to the QLDC Climate Action Plan discussions.
Workshop participation is limited, so please ensure you register in advance to secure your seat here.
