Sport Central Coaches Club returns for 2021 with an initial session focused on the much-talked about topic of sport training and competition for young athletes.

‘Winning in the Long Run’ tackles the issue of giving children or young athletes the best opportunity to reach their potential and is designed not only for coaches but also for athletes, parents, and administrators.

Sport Otago coach trainer Grant Milne gives his expert advice on how ambitious eight to 13-year-old athletes in teams or individual sports can best manage their development over the years as they mature.

The session will include a local junior athlete who has achieved at the national level while maintaining a balance between family and school life, training and playing with her mates.

She will provide a personal perspective on sport, training and competition, and will be available to respond to questions about how she manages her time and what is the most fun.

The session will be held at Mount Aspiring College at 7:00pm next Monday (February 22) - directions to the classroom will be in the main reception foyer.

It’s free to everyone but those interested in attending must register in advance with Sport Central’s community sport advisor Tiny Carruthers by emailing [email protected].
