Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) mayor Glyn Lewers was not the first - or even second - choice for Wānaka voters, newly revealed election details show. 

Jon Mitchell received 1,571 votes from the Wānaka-Upper Clutha ward in the recent local body elections, the highest of the five mayoral candidates.

Olivia Wensley received 1,403 from the local ward. 

With the third highest number of votes from the Wānaka-Upper Clutha ward, incumbent mayor Glyn received 1,211 votes.

Jon Mitchell, a local government manager with a background in adventure tourism received the highest number of votes in the Wānaka Ward.

The candidates with the fewest votes from the Wānaka-Upper Clutha ward were Daniel Shand and Neeta Shetty, with 159 and 155 votes respectively.

Glyn, with 4,382 votes from across the district, was confirmed as mayor on October 13, finishing ahead of Jon Mitchell and Olivia, his closest challengers, by around 600 and 1,800 votes respectively.

Olivia Wensley, a former lawyer and current Startup Queenstown Lakes CEO, received the second highest number of votes in the Wānaka ward.

He received the majority of his votes in Queenstown Lakes’ other two districts: 1,700 from Arrowtown-Kawarau ward and 1,471 from the Queenstown-Wakatipu Ward, more than any other candidate in each of the two areas.
