Wānaka woman to reattempt record-breaking runVictoria Taylor

Wānaka runner Victoria Taylor will make another attempt to break the Guinness World Record for fastest run of the length of New Zealand after her first attempt earlier this month was abandoned.

Guinness World Record officials have approved her second attempt, which would need to beat the time of 20 days and 17 hours, running from Cape Reinga to Bluff, in order for her to secure a new record.

“I’m all good to go, the body is feeling pretty good,’ she said. “I’m definitely going for the woman’s record. If I’ve got the energy I’ll target the men's record (18 days nine hours).”

To break the record Victoria will need to run between 110 and 130 kilometres per day, breaking the day into three marathon-length runs.

“I start the first run at 4am.. then 9am to 1pm and then 2pm to 6pm,” Victoria said.

The motivation behind the run is to raise awareness for mental health, an issue which is close to Victoria’s heart, having lost a close friend to suicide.

“Losing someone you were once so close with hurts in a way I can’t even bear to explain,” she said.

“This is going to be a huge challenge, I’m not underestimating it.”

Victoria had to abandon an earlier attempt in September due a falling out with her support crew.

This will be the 28-year-old’s second time running the length of the country, having completed it in 34 days to support child cancer when she was 19.
