Wānaka streets named among most expensive in the countryMount Gold Place is New Zealand’s third most expensive street according to new data.

With its views of Lake Wānaka - including Treble Cone, Mount Alta, and Stevensons Arm - Mt Gold Place is now one of the most expensive residential streets in the country, new CoreLogic research has revealed.

Media company Stuff reported the findings which identify the 10 priciest New Zealand streets overall using an estimated median value for every residential property nationwide as at mid-January 2023.

Stuff reported that CoreLogic's head of research Nick Goodall said the analysis was limited to streets with more than 10 residential properties, but he noted that shorter streets dominated the result.

Mount Gold Place, Peninsular Bay, has an average property value of $6.22M according to the report, across 15 residential properties.

Expansive views of Lake Wānaka and its mountains can be seen from Mount Gold Place.

The website Homes.co.nz, which shows estimated property values, states the properties range in value from $4.4M to $7.7M.

Two other Wānaka streets made the top 10 priciest places to live with Ridgecrest (off Beacon Point Road) named at number five with a median value of $5.82M and Waimana Place (also off Beacon Point Road) having a median value of $5.53M.

Harcourts Wānaka owner Grant Parker told Stuff the three Wānaka streets had easy access to the lake, spectacular views, large sections, and were close to town.

"Mount Gold Place is the furthest from the town centre, but it's just a few minutes drive, and has breathtaking panoramic views of the lake and the mountains," he said.

“Waimana Place and Ridgecrest were both prestige streets, with many huge one acre (0.4 hectare) sections that allowed for pools and tennis courts.”

Corelogic’s latest House Price Index (December 2022) had the average price for a Queenstown Lakes property at $1.67M, up 6.3 percent on the same month in 2021.
