An Armistice Day Remembrance Service will take place this morning (Monday November 11) at Wānaka’s Chalmers Street War Memorial at 10.50am.
Members of the public are invited to join with the Returned Services Personnel for the service, which commemorates the end of World War I.
The traditional two minutes’ silence will be observed at 11.00am, followed by wreath and poppy laying, Ode to the Fallen, and Last Post to commemorate the official end of World War I.
Commander Lyal Cocks (RNZN Rtd), who will be present at the service, said the last post and Reveille will be played by David Leslie.
Armistice Day, also known as Remembrance Day, honors the ceasefire that ended the First World War.
On this day, nations worldwide pause to remember and pay tribute to the sacrifices of those who served and fell in the line of duty.
