The perfect Christmas gift for anyone wanting a piece of Wānaka nostalgia has arrived.

The Wānaka Monopoly game, which features local landmarks and popular destinations, is now on sale.

"This game not only entertains but also serves as a celebration of our local businesses, landmarks, and the unique character of Wānaka,” Wānaka Business Chamber general manager Glenn Peat said.

He said it was “a tribute to our town's rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant business community".

The officially licensed edition was created by the Wānaka Business Chamber in partnership with Winning Moves AU.

Instead of the traditional UK street names, ‘properties’ on the board include local places like Roys Peak, the Wānaka Tree, and Cardrona and Treble Cone ski fields.

Glenn said the process of selecting landmarks and businesses to feature on the board involved engagement and input from the local business sector ensuring the final product is “a true representation” of Wānaka's identity.

“We have ordered 5,000 boards,” Glenn said. “Pre-sales have sold just over 2,300.”

Profit from the sale of the Monopoly games goes to the Wānaka Business Chamber which Glenn said will be reinvested back into the development of the chamber.

Two charity spots were provided to Wastebusters and Community Networks (sponsored by local businesses Eco Plumbing and Gas and Checketts McKay Law respectively) and a portion of sales will be donated to Food For Love.

A public launch event for the Wānaka Monopoly Board will be held at the Dinosaur Park today (December 20) at 5.30pm featuring ‘Mr Monopoly’ along with Queenstown Lakes district mayor Glyn Lewers.

The Wānaka Monopoly Board is available to purchase at selected retailers (Paper Plus Wānaka, Mitre10 Mega Wānaka, The Camp Lake Hāwea) and online.
