The Wānaka Hospice Shop is about to expand, providing even more second-hand goodies in a convenient, central location.
Keen op-shoppers will have noticed that the hospice warehouse shop on Gordon Road recently shut down, but the Otago Community Hospice has leased new space adjacent to its other shop on Brownston Street.
“We’ve closed the warehouse shop but we’re expanding in town and taking over where The Messenger was,” Otago Community Hospice retail development manager Cat Callan told the Wānaka App.
“It makes business sense to bring it all together under one roof.”
Cat said it was hard to beat the Brownston Street location, which is “very high profile and very busy”.
“It’s a really positive move and we’re really excited.”
The Otago Community Hospice has run the two second-hand stores since May last year when they were transferred over from the Upper Clutha Hospice Trust Board.
Renovation work to turn the two neighbouring spaces into one larger store will begin in the coming weeks and the new section of the store should open by the end of February.
The warehouse shop (pictured) has closed down but the Browston Street store is expanding.
Cat said shoppers can expect a good range of products in the expanded store.
“We will still have a bit of furniture and curtains and those kinds of things that were in the warehouse but weren’t in the Brownston Street shop.”
Cat said to keep an eye out for a one-off sale and temporary reopening of the Gordon Road store which will take place sometime in the next few weeks to clear out stock.
Money raised via Otago Community Hospice stores helps the organsiation provide specialist palliative care services across Otago.
The Messenger has relocated to Dungarvon Street.
