Wānaka bull rider impressive at world champsCade Cameron

A local bull rider has competed against the best in the world at the Mini Bull Rider World Championship in Texas.

Seventeen-year-old Cade Cameron travelled to the United States to represent New Zealand in last week’s championships.

In bull riding the competitors ride for points on each successive bull, aiming for the highest number of points.

By the final championship round Cade was one of only two contestants who had managed to ride all of their bulls, and he entered that round in second place.

He ended the competition in sixth place after being bucked off Dash, a bucking bull breed, after lasting an impressive 6.5 seconds.

Cade has only participated in bull riding for a year.

He left school last year and is spending his gap year competing in the sport.

He was invited to compete in the world championships by the Australian team, who he has been training with, but he competed as a New Zealander - the only Kiwi among 250 entrants.

Cade is returning to New Zealand this week.
