Vaccine update: Upper Clutha hits 90 percent first doseSeventy-eight percent of the eligible Upper Clutha population is now fully vaccinated.

Ministry of Health data released on Tuesday (November 2) shows 90 per cent of eligible Upper Clutha residents (12+ years) have now had their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and 78 percent are fully vaccinated.

Recent data shows that the same percentage of people have received their first and second doses across the Southern District.

Both the Upper Clutha and the Southern District are doing better than the national average, where 76 percent are fully vaccinated and 88 percent have received their first dose.

Within the Upper Clutha, Wānaka Central and Wānaka North have achieved 95 percent first vaccination or better, with 84 percent and 81 percent fully vaccinated respectively.

The lowest vaccination rates are in Outer Wānaka (north of Albert Town excluding Hāwea and Hāwea Flat) and in the Upper Clutha Valley (incorporating Hāwea Flat and Luggate). First doses in those areas are 80 percent and 82 percent respectively.

A new ‘traffic-light’ framework, to replace the alert levels, will be rolled out once all district health boards (DHBs) hit 90 percent full vaccination.

Of the South Island’s five DHBs, Southern is currently 78 percent fully vaccinated; South Canterbury is at 76 percent; Canterbury at 75 percent; Nelson/Marlborough at 77 percent; and the West Coast is at 68 percent.
