Upper Clutha edging closer to 90% fully vaccinatedNinety percent of eligible people in six of the Upper Clutha's nine areas have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Upper Clutha now has 83 percent of its eligible population (aged above 12 years old) fully vaccinated for Covid-19 according to data released by the Ministry of Health.


The data, which is accurate up to midnight on Tuesday November 16, showed that in six of the nine areas in the Upper Clutha, 90 percent of the eligible population have had at least one dose of the Pfizer vaccine.



Overall the Upper Clutha recorded 91 percent as having had one dose.


The Southern District Health Board area is 84 percent fully vaccinated, with 92 percent of the eligible population having received one dose.



New Zealand is 82 percent and 91 percent respectively.  


Within the Upper Clutha, Wānaka Central, Wānaka Waterfront, Wānaka North, Wānaka West, Cardrona and Albert Town have achieved 90 percent first vaccination or better, with Outer Wānaka (83 percent), Upper Clutha Valley (83 percent), and Hāwea (86 percent) edging closer to 90 percent.



Of the South Island’s five DHBs, Southern is currently 84 percent fully vaccinated; South Canterbury is at 81 percent; Canterbury at 83 percent; Nelson/Marlborough at 81 percent; and the West Coast is at 75 percent.



On Monday (November 15) the government’s Covid-19 vaccine mandate came into effect. Under the mandate people who are unvaccinated cannot work in certain roles in health and disability, education, and corrections.
