The crash site has been cleared and the road is now open.

Police confirm that a person has died. The deceased was the driver of the vehicle and died at the scene.

A serious crash has closed SH6 near Wānaka Airport this morning.

Police were informed of the single-vehicle crash at about 4.20am.

There was only one occupant of the vehicle, however police are unable to confirm the nature of any injuries at this time.

Travellers heading south on SH6 towards Luggate and Tarras will have to detour via Hāwea Flat until the road reopens.

Diversions are in place at the intersection of SH6 and SH84 diverting southbound traffic via Albert Town and Hawea Flat, while a diversion is in place for northbound traffic on SH6 near Luggate in the opposite direction.
