Three Parks development gathers momentumThere is rapid progress on the construction of Three Parks New World supermarket.

As the structure of Wanaka’s second New World supermarket rapidly takes shape in Three Parks, other adjacent commercial developments are also revealed.

Willowridge Developments director Allan Dippie said his company is currently concentrating on developing the commercial sections of Three Parks and completing the major infrastructure of roading networks and underground services.

A Mitre 10 MEGA store for Three Parks was announced last year and, if the consent is approved, the aim is for it to open in March 2020, he said.

Discussions are progressing with a number of other national “hyper” retailers (big box or chain stores), Allan said, which are considering leasing space adjacent to the New World and Mitre 10 MEGA. As the information was commercially sensitive, he wouldn’t reveal the names of the stores but indicated they included furniture and variety retailers.

BP has confirmed “it is exploring opportunities” for a BP-2go service station at Three Parks adjacent to the roundabout which will connect Three Parks to SH84 (the Wanaka to Luggate highway) opposite the Mt Iron walking track.

BP spokesperson Leigh Taylor was asked if the Three Parks BP station would be in addition to, or replacing, the BP service station which already exists on Ardmore Street. “I’m not able to confirm any more detail at this stage as it’s early in the process and subject to change,” she said.

International health and fitness club Snap Fitness 24/7 is soon to open its doors in a block of trade retail showrooms on Ballantyne Road, Allan said, and the construction of 24/7 self-storage units on McCormick Street appears nearing completion.

The Snap Fitness franchise operates more than 50 gymnasiums throughout the country providing access to its equipment and facilities 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Space has also been allocated in the Three Parks plan for business units with showrooms and an Office Park.

Three Parks is already home to Wanaka’s recreation centre and public swimming pool, and last year the Ministry of Education announced that a new primary school, currently named Wanaka South, will be constructed adjacent to these sports facilities. The site for the school has been levelled and it is scheduled to open next year.

An Early Childhood Centre and family support facilities is also planned adjacent to the primary school.

In addition to the commercial development, a range of other development is also being considered for Three Parks, Allan said. These include a hotel, a retirement village and/or lifestyle village, as well as residential sections.
