‘The Great Migrant Brainstorm’ is returning to Wānaka for a second year this Sunday (September 18).
Local charity The Kiwi Kit Community Trust, which formed in the wake of Covid-19, is organising the event.
“This is a welcoming, safe and inclusive space to share our current reality, struggles, desires, ideas, and dreams,” Kiwi Kit Community Trust operations manager Franco Nobell said.
“Our goal with this event is to grow together by listening to your concerns, celebrating our diversity, and empowering the community.”
Franco said the event wasn’t just for migrants - anyone who wants to support migrants in the Upper Clutha is also invited to come along.
The charity’s mission is to support and empower migrants and build an inclusive community.
The Kiwi Kit Community Trust’s mission is to support and empower migrants, unite the community, and celebrate diversity in Queenstown Lakes.
When Covid-19 hit, many migrants were left vulnerable and unable to receive government support and the trust was formed as a result.
Now, its wider goal is to build a supportive, inclusive community.
Franco said the trust would share statistics, resources and stories from the migrant community at the event.
It will also feature a free meal, made by the diverse community in Wānaka.
‘The Great Migrant Brainstorm’ will take place at the Wānaka Community Hub on Sunday September 18, from 10.30am-1.30pm
