Sport Otago presents an opportunity to take a look, have a go or get involved in sport this week.
The Takaro Upper Clutha festival of sport, active recreation and play will see sports clubs across Upper Clutha open their doors to the public to see how the club operates and what they offer.
It is a reinvention of the former Festival of Sport, an exhibition of sports clubs which used to be held at the Wānaka Recreation Centre.
“The format is new and exciting,” Sport Central community sport advisor Tiny Carruthers said.
“Takaro Upper Clutha will showcase sports as varied as rugby, football, gymsport, biking, sailing, rowing, tennis, disc golf and squash to name a few.”

Tiny said the response from clubs has been very positive and the public is encouraged to view the programme and take a look at what is on offer.
Clubs and groups will have a designated person available at the advertised time to meet and greet and inform their visitors, Tiny said.
“MAC has bought into the concept and some clubs will be actively engaged with students over the five-day festival,” he said.
“QLDC with its wide variety of rec and play options is a key partner of Sport Central and will be welcoming the public to take a look or have a go at many of their aquatic or court-based activities.”
The public can access all the available opportunities, the time they are open to the public and what is on offer, via the Wānaka App (Tākaro UC) or on Sport Otago’s website.
Takaro Upper Clutha takes place from Tuesday, March 21 to Saturday, March 25.
