A group of third year geography students from the University of Otago is investigating values around freshwater management in Wānaka.
The group of third year students are undertaking a year-long research project on the values ascribed to freshwater management by government agencies, community groups, and other stakeholders in this region.
Student Celeste Howard told the Wānaka App the group hopes to consult with a range of stakeholders involved in freshwater management.
“Additionally, we seek to identify how these values shape water management practices,” she said.
“We have formulated a survey that is aimed at Wānaka locals, it asks various questions regarding perceptions surrounding freshwater management in Wānaka as well as knowledge of community groups, etc.”
The survey also addresses issues which affect the quality of our freshwater, and asks about priorities, and the effectiveness of our district council in managing freshwater.
Only those who live in the Wānaka area can undertake the survey, which takes about five minutes.
