Summerdaze is returning to the district this summer with a collection of events encouraging residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors, celebrate their neighbourhood and spend time with each other.
Sport Central is currently promoting the Night ‘n’ Day Rainbow Run, a 5km run/walk starting at Eely Point where participants will be ‘colour bombed’ at five colour stations along the way.
The ‘rainbow run’ concept is popular around New Zealand and overseas, with participants often dressing in white or black to make the most of the ‘colour bombs’, which are made from coloured cornstarch.
Sport Central community sport advisor Tiny Carruthers encouraged residents to get friends, family or flatmates to “get together, get dressed up and have a blast” for the November 25 event.
They will also be supporting a good cause: Ticket sales will support Sporting Chance, a Sport Otago programme which provides financial help so children in need can take part in sport.
Participants and supporters are also encouraged to stick around for the post-race celebrations.
“QLDC and Sport Central will have the Hunger Ball, inflatables, zorbs and play trailers [at Eely Point] so friends and family can hang out, relax and enjoy a Night n Day ice cream,” he said.
There will also be cold drinks and food.
The event is one of a series which have been announced for Summerdaze this summer, with more to come.
Others include a Teddy Bear’s Picnic in January, a family-friendly event which will feature a silent disco, mural painting, bubbles, a free sausage sizzle, food vendors, face painting, life sized teddy bears, sports and games, a bouncy castle and more.
