The MetService has issued a strong wind warning for tomorrow (Friday May 26, 3am-8pm).
Severe gale northwesterlies are expected in exposed places with gusts of 120-130 kilometres per hour.
Heavy rain can also be expected with the MetService issuing a heavy rain watch as a series of fronts is forecast to move onto the South Island from the west on Friday.
Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria within 15 km east of the main divide.
Strong wind gusts could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures. Driving may be hazardous, especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.
People are advised to stay up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made.
