A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck this morning (September 20) 45 kilometres north of Geraldine.
It was centred in the Canterbury foothills west of Methven. GeoNet recorded the earthquake as having a depth of 10 kilometres.
The earthquake was felt in Wānaka as a prolonged rolling event at 9.14am.
GeoNets Shaking Layers visualisation measured the magnitude in Wānaka at 3.5.
At this stage there are no reports of damage.
