The earthquake was felt throughout the South IslandA 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck this morning (September 20) 45 kilometres north of Geraldine.
It was centred in the Canterbury foothills west of Methven. GeoNet recorded the earthquake as having a depth of 10 kilometres.
The earthquake was felt in Wānaka as a prolonged rolling event at 9.14am.
GeoNets Shaking Layers visualisation measured the magnitude in Wānaka at 3.5.

At this stage there are no reports of damage.
