Smiths City Wānaka is one of a handful of stores from the nationwide brand closing this year.
The more than 100-year-old furniture and appliance company has announced it is downsizing after its business dropped 40 percent from two years ago, Stuff reported.
So far this year Smiths City stores in Tauranga, Palmerston North, Wellington, Blenheim, and Nelson have closed.
Smiths City once had 35 stores nationwide, and that number has now shrunk to 10.
In 2023 Smiths City Wānaka relocated to Three Parks, as the anchor tenant in a building adjacent to the Warehouse.
At the time, Three Parks developer Allan Dippie said it was one of a number of successful local businesses which had outgrown its premises in Wānaka.
Before that the store was located on Reece Crescent.
The store at Three Parks has already been leased to a new tenant, Furniture Central.
