After closing for a day to prepare for the move to alert level two restrictions, local ski fields are now open again from today (Thursday August 13).
On Tuesday evening Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern shared the news that most of New Zealand would move to alert level two late at midday on Wednesday, giving little notice to businesses required to adjust their operations.
The team at Cardrona and Treble Cone said it is possible to safely enjoy the mountain while under alert level two and asked visitors to be mindful of adjustments.
“Please look after yourself and take personal responsibility. Things will run differently from normal under level 2 – please be kind to each other, be patient, and listen for any instructions from our team,” Cardrona-Treble Cone said in a statement.
Level two protocols now in place at the skifields include a 100-person limit on indoor spaces, which will be run on a one-in, one out basis.

Visitors to the skifields can expect to spend a little longer waiting to buy lunch; they also won’t be able to eat packed lunches indoors. Bags won’t be able to be stored in cafes during level two either, so visitors are asked to either ski or board with their bag, or leave it in the car.
Skiing and boarding from your car may be the best option: “Use it for shelter, to rest
and have a picnic... just like in the old days,” Cardrona-Treble Cone said in a statement.
Physical distancing limits may slow things down at the chairlifts, with spacing mandatory in queues and on chairlifts; and all visitors to the skifields must have an RFID lift pass with up-to-date contact details.

Guest transport will not be provided, and the local primary school skiing programme has been put on hold.
The Snow Farm also closed its doors on Tuesday to prepare for the changes.
It resumes operations today for people with season passes and those who have pre-booked online. From Friday August 14 onwards it will open for everyone, but the skifield cautioned people to expect further updates on operations.
“We have implemented level two procedures and are stoked to see you again,” the Snow Farm said in a statement.
